Statement On Swearing In Of U.S. Representative Emily Randall
WASHINGTON, DC— Today, Emily Randall was sworn in as a member of the United States House of Representatives to represent Washington state’s 6th Congressional District during the 119th Congress.
U.S. Representative Emily Randall succeeds Rep. Derek Kilmer, and makes history as the first woman and first person of color to represent the 6th District, the first LGBTQ person in Washington’s Congressional delegation, and the first queer Latina ever to serve in the United States Congress.
Prior to her election to Congress, Rep. Randall served as a member and Deputy Majority Leader in the Washington State Senate, and as an advocate for expanding healthcare access, including time at Planned Parenthood.
Statement from Congresswoman Emily Randall (WA-06):
“It is an honor to represent Washington’s 6th Congressional District in the 119th Congress. I ran for Congress to improve the lives of my neighbors - and that work starts today.
“I ran to defend abortion rights and expand access to quality healthcare. I ran to lower the cost of living and make housing more affordable. I ran to create new jobs and new educational opportunities. I ran to protect our forests, our waters, and our planet. I ran because I know our best days are ahead of us, but only when we are willing to work together to find real solutions for our neighbors, friends, and families. In order to deliver results for everyday Washingtonians in the 6th and beyond, I will work with colleagues of all parties, from all corners of the country wherever possible.
“Unfortunately, the majority in the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate, along with the return of Donald Trump to the White House, represent real threats to real people and to the values and rights of communities across the country. Voters have sent me to Washington, DC to fight for our rights – to fight for all of us. It is an honor and a responsibility to be sent to Congress to do just that because our neighbors deserve a representative who will work as hard for every member of our community as our neighbors are working to support their own families.
“Thank you to everyone who helped us get here and for entrusting me to bring your voices to the United States House of Representatives.”
