STATEMENT: Congresswoman Randall Responds to Uptick in ICE Raids

WASHINGTON, DC - Congresswoman Emily Randall released the following statement on the uptick in ICE raids: 

"I want to take a moment to acknowledge the heartbreak, fear, and confusion communities around the country are experiencing right now with the uptick in ICE raids. They aren’t targeting and detaining “dangerous criminals,” they’re blatantly circumventing due process to pick up people with brown skin. These raids are harrowing and disturbing, and challenge the very fabric of what once was the heartbeat of this country: a place where people can dream and build a better life for themselves and their loved ones. Immigrants make our communities stronger — always have and always will.

The egregious, unconstitutional, and authoritarian decisions by President Trump to deploy members of our military to Los Angeles to “respond” to a crisis that he created is a flashing “danger” sign for our United States. This is a democracy, not a kingdom. He has no right to use members of the National Guard or the Marine Corps as pawns in his twisted agenda.

I will continue to speak out against these attacks and speak up for our communities."
