Rep. Randall Statement on Unauthorized Military Actions in Venezuela

January 3, 2026

BREMERTON, WA — Following last night’s unauthorized military actions taken by the Trump administration in Venezuela, Congresswoman Emily Randall (D, WA-06) released this statement:

“The world is watching as Trump illegally stokes the fires of war for his own personal gain. Bypassing Congressional authorization — or at the very least notification — to kidnap a foreign leader and force a regime change in order to extract oil resources is unconstitutional.

“These latest unauthorized military actions in Venezuela have nothing to do with keeping Americans safe, nothing to do with lowering the cost of living, nothing to do with building an economy that is better for all of us. They have everything to do with enriching his circle of oil executives and donors.

“Trump has no respect for our enlisted and active duty military members who are being asked, yet again, to carry out unconstitutional orders, to engage in a combat mission that isn’t about national security but is about self-interest.

“The military families in Washington state do not want to be dragged into another endless war where countless American lives will be put at risk. They deserve better from their President. We all deserve better. As a Member of Congress, I will work tirelessly to hold this Administration accountable, to center the needs of my neighbors, my constituents, and our future.”

Last month, Rep. Randall voted YES on two war powers resolutions to reign in Trump’s unconstitutional use of military force towards Venezuela. Both resolutions ultimately failed, the majority of House Republicans voted NO.
