March 25 Newsletter: Town Halls, Hearings, and More

March 25, 2025

Hi Neighbor,

It’s Emily. Just wanted to send a quick update on what we’ve been up to. We’re still fighting hard down in D.C. to protect the programs that matter to neighbors in our community, pushing back on those funding cuts, and standing up to the chaos we’re seeing from Trump and Musk. I know this is a challenging and confusing time, but when it comes to standing up for the 6th District, I won’t back down.

In this together,

Emily

LEGISLATIVE ACTION

From important votes to stop government funding cuts to essential programs to introducing our first bill (yay), here are some legislative actions you might have missed.

  • Introduced my first bill in Congress to protect taxpayer dollars and ensure accountability.
  • Voted NO on the Republican “government funding” bill that cuts funding from critical programs.
  • Shared my family’s Medicaid story on the House Floor.
  • Defended immigrants against baseless attacks during an Oversight Committee hearing.
  • After hearing from concerned constituents, led a letter with 82 members advocating against Trump’s anti-trans passport policy.
  • Cosponsored the Keeping Our Field Offices Open Act to prevent the closure of Social Security Administration field offices during this administration to ensure seniors in our community can access their benefits.

AROUND THE 6TH

While we have been busy in DC, we have also been connecting with neighbors all across our community. Over the last three weeks, we have hosted five town halls (with two more coming up this week), attended over 22 meetings with local organizations and leaders, and clocked 931 miles making our way all across Washington’s 6th District.

  • Visited and toured Naval Hospital Bremerton - thanks to Captain Karla M. Lepore and her team for hosting me and their work to support servicemembers and their families in our community.
  • Attended a Head Start site tour at Downing Elementary in Tacoma. The Head Start program is based on the premise that all children deserve a high-quality, early childhood learning experience, and that children benefit from a comprehensive developmental program.
  • I attended The Puyallup Tribe and The Northwest Seaport Alliance’s announcement of the first-ever, historic partnership to build a Puyallup Tribal Terminal next to East Blair 1 terminal on the East Blair Waterway in Tacoma. This will expand the capacity of the PNW Maritime Gateway and expand the Tribe’s growing presence in global markets.
  • I spoke at a press conference with Senator Patty Murray to highlight why any cuts to Medicaid would be detrimental to the communities here in our district.
  • Took meetings with stakeholders in Aberdeen and Hoquiam to learn about the levy projects and dam removal project.
  • Visited and toured New Horizon Communities Shelton Veterans Village to learn about their housing-first model and how their team works side-by-side with residents to help them reach their individual goals, connect them with various community services, and to help maintain their housing.

IN THE NEWS

Here’s a collection of some local and national news articles featuring the work we are doing in DC and in the 6th District.

CONGRESSIONAL ART COMPETITION

We are so excited about the 2025 Congressional Art Competition, a nationwide annual art competition that allows high school students from across the United States to showcase their artistic ability. I am honored to offer this opportunity to a high school student from the Sixth Congressional District of Washington. The student whose artwork is selected will be invited to travel with a companion to Washington, D.C. in June to attend a ceremony unveiling their artwork. There is no theme or artistic parameters, students should enter their best or favorite work. Entries must be received by 5:00pm, Friday, April 18th, 2025. Artwork can be submitted to our District Offices at the addresses and office hours below. If you have any questions, please email randallart@mail.house.gov

IN OUR INBOX

Since coming to Congress, our office has received nearly 40,000 calls, emails, and DMs from neighbors in the 6th District who are concerned, frustrated, and worried about the chaos being caused by President Trump and Elon Musk. Here’s the topics we are getting the most mail about:

  • Fighting back against Elon and Trump
  • Protect the Department of Education
  • Safeguarding USAID Funding
  • Immigration
  • Voting against the Republican “government funding” bill
